Red BikeVida Hollywood’s convenient location makes it easy for you to take advantage of one or more local biking trails. Here are just a few that you may want to consider trying out.

Marvin Braude Bike Trail

The Marvin Braude Bike Trail is ideal for anyone who enjoys waterfront scenery. The 22-mile path starts at Will Rogers State Beach, passes through Manhattan Beach and ends at Torrance County Beach. While there are some parts of the trail where pedestrians are allowed to walk, most of the trail is only for bicycles, making it easy to enjoy the view without having to worry about pedestrians.

Ballona Creek Bike Path

This short 7-mile path is a great option if you only have time for a short ride. It starts a few blocks from the Culver City Expo Line and ends at the Pacific Ocean. The route may be a bit treacherous during the winter but is great for any other time of the year.

L.A. River

There are a number of paved paths along the L.A. River. Individuals who appreciate nature’s beauty are sure to enjoy riding through Canoga Park, Marsh Park, Rattlesnake Park or Elysian Valley’s Egret Park. Alternatively, a rider who wants to take a break from a long ride and grab a bite to eat before setting out again will find the bike path running through Frogtown restaurant and cafe to be ideal. There are 51 miles of bike trails along this route and the paths aren’t all connected so study a map before you set out and choose your starting point and destination with care.

Tips for Taking Care of Your Skin During the Summer

Sunscreen and SunglassesSummer provides you with plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors, but the sun can take a toll on your skin while you do so. Keep these tips in mind so you can spend time outside while also protecting your skin.

Keep Your Skin Hydrated

Although skin tends to be dry during winter, it’s still important to use moisturizer during the summer months. Moisturizing your skin helps ensure that it stays well-hydrated when you’re outdoors. Keeping it hydrated also helps reduce your risk of ending up with fine lines from sunlight exposure.

Always Wear Sunscreen

Your skin can burn easily when you’re outside during the summer, which raises your risk of skin cancer. About 20 minutes before heading out the door, put sunscreen on all exposed parts of your skin, including the tops of your feet and ears. If you’ll be swimming or working out, choose sunscreen that will stay on in the water or when you sweat.

Protect Your Lips

Your lips also need to be protected from the sun’s UV rays. While you don’t need to slather sunscreen on them, you should apply a lip balm that offers sun protection. Look for a lip balm with a sun protection factor (SPF). Make sure you put this on before you leave the house, especially if you’ll be spending time outdoors.

Exfoliate Your Skin

Taking time to exfoliate your skin during summer helps it look clear and healthy rather than dull. Exfoliating also helps ensure that moisturizer seeps into your pores and keeps your skin hydrated.

Keep Your Face Clean

If you tend to get sweaty from being outside or if you have oily skin, it’s important to keep your face clean on a regular basis. Otherwise, dirt can build up in your pores and cause a breakout. In addition to exfoliating, you should wash your face and completely remove any makeup you’ve been wearing for cleaner and clearer skin during summer.

Our community in Los Angeles, California has a resort-style swimming pool so you can spend time in the sun while staying cool this summer. Just don’t forget to protect your skin with sunscreen. To learn more about our Los Angeles apartments, please contact us.

Playing a Board Game

How to Host a Game Night in Your Apartment

Playing a Board GameHosting a game night in your apartment may seem like a fairly simple activity. Just set some board games and refreshments out, and the rest will take care of itself. But what happens when no one can decide on a game, or someone inevitably takes that game a little too seriously? What happens when there are too many people and the game gets out of control? Just a few simple ground rules and the right setup can go a long way.

Limit Your Equipment

The more accessories you have, the more likely it is you’ll end up losing your dice, timer, or scorecards. Instead, start the night off with conversation games, like Two Truths and a Lie, Never Have I Ever, or even the classic 20 Questions.

Set People’s Expectations

All the most well-known games come with their own variations on how to play so not everyone will play by the exact same rules. Remember fighting with your friends over whether or not you should get money if you landed on the Free Parking square in Monopoly? Instead, make it clear before you start on how you want the game to be played.

Designate a Chooser

Letting everyone chat over what they want to play can turn from fun to frustrating quickly. Let one person pick the game and set a limit as to how long it can be played. The limit can either be time or up to a certain score. The rest of the group can’t get mad at the chooser for picking something they don’t like.

Consider the Size

Large groups probably won’t do well with games where you have to write all the responses down. You’ll either need to break up the group or stick to team games like charades. If you have a smaller group, then you can definitely play more traditional games like Scrabble or Rummy.

Vida Bedroom

6 Decor Tips for Summer

Vida BedroomOne of the easiest ways to keep your apartment fresh is to change its decor for every season. This way, you get something different to look at. You also get a chance to clean last season’s elements without worrying about your space looking barren.

Summer Decorating Tips

  1. Put up heavy curtains or drapes. Summer is associated with sunlight, but sunlight can add a tremendous amount of heat to your space. Block it out to enjoy cool interiors. Keep the colors light so that the window coverings don’t look as heavy as they are.
  2. Switch to light, neutral colors for accents and window treatments. Light colors give a bright and airy appearance to your rooms, while neutral colors indicate that the spring season has passed.
  3. Put down a dark “welcome” mat. In this case, the dark color is a purely practical consideration. Summers are more likely to include outdoor adventures that can cause your shoe soles to pick up and track in more dirt. By making your welcome mat a dark color, you’ll be able to hide the soiling and avoid having to wash the mat too frequently.
  4. Mount some summery items on your walls or doors as decorations. A straw hat and pair of sunglasses along with similar accessories will bring the theme to mind immediately. Use inexpensive versions so you’re not tempted to take them down and use them.
  5. Switch up your bed sheets. Summer sheets should be lightweight so that they don’t trap your body heat while you’re trying to sleep. Choose a light color as well to bring the bright, airy look into the bedroom.
  6. Brighten up your table. One of the most fun ways to bring about a seasonal decor change is to start using a set of summer dishes. If the thought of keeping four different sets of dishes is too daunting, try changing out your tablecloth or centerpiece.

Scenic Road

5 Scenic Drives in California

Scenic RoadCalifornia is one of the best places you’ll ever live, but it’s definitely not one of the best places to drive. The traffic on the freeways and main roads can make even the calmest person a little rattled. But there are more than a few scenic drives throughout the state, and it’s probably about time you got out to enjoy them.

Topanga Canyon

In San Fernando Valley, you’ll find State Route 27 which is also known as Topanga Canyon (TC). From the famed PCH, you can turn onto the TC for a dramatic close-up look at mountains and trees, as well as the bridges and homes that were put in long before California became so popular.

Santa Barbara

Hopefully, you’ve been on the PCH by now, but this drive definitely takes your coastal experience to a whole new level. As you get out of the city, you’ll travel up toward sleepier beach cities that can’t help but relax you. You can also hit some amazing scenery taking the PCH the other way to San Diego too (neither trip will disappoint).

Angeles Crest Highway

Check out Angeles Crest if you’re looking for a different view of the fabulous Southern California mountains. In the 50 miles between La Canada and Flintridge, you’ll get some incredible views of natural splendor and some far-away looks at the city below.

Forest Lawn Drive

Often discovered by drivers who are just trying to avoid traffic, this road near Griffith Park is both beautiful and blood-pressure reducing. It’s also incredibly heartening to know that even in the congestion that is the city, you can still find places to escape.

Highway 74

Specifically, if you go from Palm to Pines in Palm Desert, you’ll see lots of small towns and get a full view of the spectacular colors of the famed desert. This drive is highly recommended around sunrise or sunset for the full scenic effect.

Our apartments in Los Angeles put you close to everything, but sometimes it’s good to be on a slightly less crowded track. Taco With Toppings

Cinco de Mayo Party Ideas

Taco With ToppingsVida Hollywood offers the pleasant ambiance you need to enjoy Cinco de Mayo to the fullest. Following are some party ideas for this festive occasion that you may want to take advantage of.

Potluck Party

Have everyone bring a Mexican-inspired dish to a potluck party at your apartment. Some great recipe options include tacos, guacamole, pico de gallo, enchiladas, churros and tamales. Set up the living room area or dining space so that everyone can serve themselves buffet style for added convenience. Those who can’t or don’t have time to cook can bring tasty Mexican dishes from a local restaurant.

Cocktail Party

If you’d rather avoid organizing a full meal, turn your home into a bar and offer some delicious mixed drinks for this special occasion. Micheladas, margaritas and tequila go nicely with snacks. Horchata and mango-guava batidos are good options for children or those who can’t drink alcoholic beverages. Have Spanish music playing in the background to create a truly Latin environment.

Movie Night

Celebrate Mexican culture by watching a movie either on your own or with friends. Fun in Acapulco and Three Amigos aren’t really authentic to the culture but can be great fun. Desperado and The Mask of Zorro are good choices if you like action-packed flicks, while Frida is an authentic biopic that is good for anyone who enjoys drama.

Get Out to Celebrate

Don’t feel obligated to stay home for Cinco de Mayo. Los Angeles has plenty of things to do and see and Vida Hollywood’s convenient location provides easy access to great party spots for this holiday. Cleaning Tools

Quick Spring Cleaning Guide

Cleaning ToolsIf you are like most people, the warm spring weather makes you want to start cleaning up around your home. However, not everyone knows the best things to do to make the biggest impact. You also may not want to spend a lot of time on this project. To help you with your spring cleaning game plan, you should use these tips.

Quick Spring Cleaning Guide

  • Dust everywhere. A lot of people do not think of dusting at all and if you are one of those people, then the dust can be pretty bad. You should think about dusting all the surfaces in your home including ceiling fans and surfaces that are high up. These are the areas that are most often neglected. If you have bad allergies, you may also want to consider wearing a mask while you are doing this.
  • Deep clean your floors. Most people will sweep or vacuum their floors regularly but even with that, they can still be dirty. To really get the space clean, you should deep clean them with a good mopping or steam cleaning, depending on the type of floor you have. This will make a big difference in the appearance of your space.
  • Clean your kitchen. You probably clean up the kitchen after you use it but there are probably some spaces that you miss. For example, if you have not cleaned the interior of your oven in some time, this is a perfect time to do it. You should also consider cleaning the exterior of your cabinets and possibly even organizing all of your kitchen tools.
  • Clean your walls. This is something that many people do not think about cleaning, but your walls can get pretty dirty. You should check the type of paint you have and clean with a safe method. For example, if you have latex paint on your walls, you can use dish detergent or some distilled white vinegar mixed with water and give the walls a good scrubbing.

Spring is a great time to use these ideas to really bring new life into your space. If you are looking for a great place to call home, be sure to check out our apartments in Los Angeles. Stop by to see what we have available today.

Indoor Plants and Decor

How to Decorate Your Apartment for Spring

Indoor Plants and DecorAt Vida Hollywood, we’re excited that spring is in the air. There’s nothing quite like that bright, warm sunshine and crisp air. When you live in our apartments in Los Angeles, you know you already have access to modern décor and features. But, many times, it’s important to add something inviting and charming to your home to welcome the new season. How are you planning on celebrating spring? Why not decorate for it?

Fun Tips for Spring Decorating

It does not have to be hard, or even complex, to add a bit of springtime flair to your home. We have some fantastic tips to help you inexpensively make your home a bit more refreshed for the season.

  • Color is the big tool you have to make any area feel spring-like. Start with lighter, brighter tones of your favorite colors. You’ll want to include vibrant yellows and greens, for example.
  • Bring spring indoors with a few plants. You can often purchase some that will bloom year after year in pots. Or, just add a few bouquets of your favorite flowers to the dinner table or throughout your living space.
  • Change up your linens to something lighter and brighter. Using spring colors, add a beautiful tablecloth. Update the pillows and throws in your living room to those with a more vibrant color.
  • Refresh your window coverings. Get rid of the heavier drapes and instead replace them with something lighter and flowing. Then, let the breeze in and watch them blow.
  • Add some fresh fruits and veggies to your table. You can decorate with food. In our area of California, that’s easy to do. Choose a beautiful, large bowl for the centerpiece on your table and add fresh fruit and veggies to it.

These are just a few simple ways to make your home look and feel more like spring. Any one of them can help give your home a refreshed look.
